My 05' 3.0D E53 automatic has recently been showing some strange behaviour which seems to come from the gearbox / transmission system. When I pull away from stand-still, there seems to be a light slippage and judder from the transmission and sometimes the car revs up before jolting into gear and pulling away, which catches you out when pulling Brake bleeding issue with E53, 2005 BMW X5. I had all the rear bushings and link kits replaced on a 2005 BMW X5 (E53) last week and, at the same time, they found that both brake lines were near leaking so they replaced them. I had exactly the same experience with my 3.0 diesel . Front wheels suddenly locked up and clucking noises from the front left side. I m afraid , your front diff is shot or the bearing inside the Diff is gone. Happened to me and I replaced the diff and problem solved. New genuine zf mechatronic valvebody. The valvebody/gearbox has been reprogrammed to current BMW specs. An auto electrician has tested the can bus points individually from the gearbox to the transmission control module and abs pump and they are all transmitting correct readings. The X5 just had a 2 week holiday at the local BMW store, all they could do was change the trans fluid, which hasn't had much if any effect. Of course, they are wanting to change the whole tranny but on driving it does not slip in any gear and feels very solid. There are 62,000 miles or 100,000 km on the X5, just recently off warranty.
